Voter Registration

Voter registration information is maintained on a State-wide Voter Registration System called WisVote. Voters must complete a registration form before voting for the first time in Wisconsin. They are also required to complete a new registration form whenever they move to a different address or if there is a name change.

Online Registration is now available through the My Vote Wisconsin website. If your driver's license or Wisconsin identification has your current name and address you can submit your registration online; otherwise, the form must then be printed and signed by the voter. The registration form can then be mailed to the Village Clerk's office but must be postmarked no later than 20 days before the election. The voter can also personally deliver the registration form to the Village Clerk's office until 5 pm on Friday before the election or bring it to the polling place on election day. Proof of residence may be required. Please follow the registration form instructions on the My Vote Wisconsin website.

Instructions

Please read the instructions that are on the registration form. Complete all areas of the form. Be sure to use the correct name as shown on the Wisconsin driver's license or social security card.

When to Register

In Wisconsin, a voter may register as late as Election Day. If registering by mail, the application must be postmarked no later than the third Wednesday before an election. All Wisconsin voters must provide an acceptable document that provides proof of residence including their full name and current address. The list of acceptable proof of residence documents can be found on the second page of the registration form.

If registering in person, an applicant can register in the Village Clerk's office during office hours until 5 pm on Friday before the election.

Voter Information

Information is available on the Village Clerk/Village Treasurer webpage, in the Village Clerk's office, the Wisconsin Elections Commission website, and the Voter Public Access website.

Absentee Voting

If you are a qualified elector who has registered to vote, and you are unwilling or unable to appear at the polling place on Election Day, you may request an absentee ballot in writing, delivered to the Village Clerk's office by letter, email, or in person.

Requesting by Mail

If you choose to request an absentee ballot by mail, your written request must include your full name, current village address, the address where the ballot should be mailed, and your signature. Your request should be mailed to the Village Clerk's office, 138 E Main Street, Mount Horeb, WI 53572. Your request must be received no later than 5 pm on the Thursday immediately preceding the election.

In Person

Specific in-person voting hours will be posted on the homepage of our website when they have been determined for the upcoming election. In-person (early) absentee voting generally starts on the 14th day before the election and ends the Friday before the election.

Permanent Absentee Status

If getting to the polls is a physical hardship, you can check the area on the absentee application form for indefinitely confined status. A ballot will be sent to you automatically as long as you return each one.
